ABOUT THIS CONDITION
What is Gonococcal Infection
Gonococcal infection, commonly known as gonorrhoea, is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It most often affects the genital tract but can also infect the throat, rectum and, in rare cases, spread to the joints and bloodstream. Many people, particularly women, may have no symptoms at all. When symptoms occur, they include unusual discharge, painful urination, pelvic pain in women, or testicular pain in men. Untreated infection can lead to infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease and increased risk of other infections. Confidential, evidence-based diagnosis and treatment, along with partner screening, are essential. Dr. Patnam Pravallika Reddy provides discreet evaluation and care at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad.
