SKIN, NAIL AND OTHER FUNGAL INFECTIONS
Fungal Infections
Infections of skin, nails or other body parts caused by fungi, with itching, redness, scaling and discomfort. Effective topical or oral antifungal therapy clears most cases.
ABOUT THIS CONDITION
What are Fungal Infections
Fungal infections (mycoses) are infections caused by various fungi that affect the skin, nails, hair, mouth, genital area and, in some patients, internal organs. The most common fungal infections involve the skin, including ringworm, athlete's foot and jock itch, presenting as itchy red, ring-shaped or scaly patches. Nail fungal infections cause discoloured, thickened and brittle nails, while oral and vaginal candidiasis cause white patches and discomfort. Hot and humid climates, sweating, diabetes, prolonged antibiotic use and weakened immunity increase the risk. Most fungal infections respond well to topical or oral antifungal therapy combined with good skin and nail care. Dr. Patnam Pravallika Reddy provides accurate diagnosis and complete treatment at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad.
