CHEST PAIN FROM REDUCED BLOOD FLOW TO THE HEART
Angina
Chest pain or pressure caused by reduced blood flow to the heart, often triggered by exertion or emotional stress. Manageable with anti-anginal therapy, lifestyle change and risk reduction.
ABOUT THIS CONDITION
What is Angina
Angina is chest pain or discomfort that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen-rich blood, usually due to narrowed coronary arteries. It is most often triggered by physical exertion, emotional stress, cold weather or heavy meals, and is typically described as pressure, squeezing or heaviness in the chest that may radiate to the arm, neck, jaw or back. Stable angina has a predictable pattern and is relieved by rest or medication, while unstable angina occurs at rest or with increasing frequency and is a medical emergency. Diagnosis is based on clinical history, ECG, stress testing, echocardiography and sometimes angiography. Treatment combines anti-anginal medical therapy, treatment of underlying coronary artery disease, risk-factor control and, where needed, angioplasty or bypass surgery. Dr. Patnam Pravallika Reddy provides comprehensive angina evaluation and care at Lux Hospitals, Hyderabad.

Consultation & Assessment
Dr. Pravallika reviews the pattern of chest pain, risk factors and triggers, and arranges ECG, stress testing, echocardiography and cardiology evaluation where indicated.
- 2
Treatment Planning
A personalised plan is created based on symptom pattern, severity and underlying coronary anatomy.
- 3
Medical Management
Anti-anginal medical therapy, antiplatelet and lipid-lowering therapy, BP and diabetes control, with cardiology referral for procedures where indicated.
- 4
Recovery & Follow-up

AVAILABLE TREATMENTS
Treatment Options
Anti-Anginal Medical Therapy
Specific medical therapy that improves blood flow to the heart and reduces oxygen demand is the cornerstone of treatment.
Heart-Rate-Lowering Medical Therapy
Medication that slows the heart rate reduces oxygen demand and helps prevent angina episodes.
Additional Rate / Rhythm Control Medication Where Indicated
Other medical therapy options are added in selected patients for better symptom control.
Antiplatelet Therapy
Antiplatelet medication reduces the risk of clot formation in narrowed arteries.
Lifestyle Modification
Smoking cessation, regular activity within safe limits, healthy diet, weight management and stress reduction are central to long-term care.
